Hi, I’m Netty, the Director of External Engagement at SCL Student Bytes.
Who I am
I’m a career changer and aspiring commercial lawyer. I’ve previously worked as an education advisor, but gave up my job three years ago to pursue a legal career. Since then, I have graduated from Birkbeck College with a Master’s qualifying law degree, which I undertook alongside various paid and voluntary legal roles to build my experience.
My curiosity about the intersection between law and technology was sparked during my legal internship at the General Counsel’s Organisation (GCO) at American Express. Firstly, I researched and delivered a presentation to the GCO on the merits of legal technology from anin-house service delivery perspective. Secondly, I had the opportunity to participate in a trial use case for machine learning contract analysis software. The experience brought to life the opportunities and risks posed by technology from the client’s perspective in a commercial legal context, which I find particularly interesting as a budding lawyer.
What I do
I’m responsible for the overall engagement strategy of SCL Student Bytes, with the aim of increasing access and participation across our platforms. I work with Yu Qian, our Events & Partnership Manager and Natalie Kan, Marketing and Communications Manager.
